Salsa Festival Dancing with the Community Stars Competition

On Saturday, July 25th, Captain Brad "Brick" Conners and his dance partner, Vanessa Hernandez will salsa their way across the stage to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme.  This "Dancing with the Stars" - styled event is in its third year at the Oxnard Salsa Festival.  Each dollar donated to the event is a vote for Brick and Vanessa!  We ask you to please dig deep into your wallets and do what you can to help this dynamic duo win and support our efforts in raising funds for our local youth at the same time.

Brad "Brick" Conners recently retired as the Commander of Naval Base Ventura County, and continues his unprecedented legacy of community advocacy and engagement right here in the place he has decided to call his home for life - Ventura County.  This celebrated combat fighter pilot has redirected his intense focus, passion, and energy towards several community projects and organizations, with a particular emphasis on abused and neglected children.

Vanessa Hernandez has taken dance classes since the age of 3; such as tap, ballet, jazz, and highland, has helped her gain an appreciation of the various styles of dance and the many ways of expressing ones feelings through dance.  In the late 90's, she began training in partner dancing in both American Smooth (Ballroom) and American Rhythm (Latin) with her now partner, Russell Adcock.  Vanessa currently teaches at the House of Dance in Ventura.

Boys & Girls Club membership is available to children ages 6-18 for only $15 per child for an entire year. Scholarships are provided for participants who cannot afford the membership cost. Actual cost to the Club is approximately $450 per year per child, which pays for the Club to maintain a staff-to-student ratio of 15-1, a low number that allows Club members to have more individual attention. Still, no child is ever turned away due to economic hardship.
